You have chosen the right container for your needs. Now comes the next question – how will it get there? A lot of people believe that it requires a huge crane for its delivery. No, it does not. Most containers are delivered by a truck, and the whole process takes up to an hour. Here is how it is done.
Three Common Methods of Container Delivery
- Tilt tray truck
It is the most common method of delivering a shipping container. A tilt tray is a flat bed of a truck which tilts at an angle. The driver slides the container off the truck bed onto the ground. It is easy and fast. All you need is a flat surface and enough space behind the truck.
- Side loader
Side loader is a truck equipped with cranes on a trailer. The cranes take the container from both sides and unload it. It is very convenient in narrow spaces. It can also place a container next to a fence or stack it on top of another.
- Hiab crane truck
A Hiab truck has an arm that is mounted on its back. The driver of the truck lifts your container and drops it right in the location you choose. It could even drive over a fence and deliver the container to a backyard or raised position. Make sure there are no power lines above the location.
Delivery Across Australia
Tiger has local depots around the country, so many orders arrive fast, often within 24 hours. We deliver to homes, farms, building sites and businesses. Whether you want shipping containers for sale or a box for a short time, the delivery steps are much the same.
Get Your Site Ready
A little preparation will make delivery day stress-free. The following are some of the things that you need to consider before delivery:
- The ground needs to be even and firm. Placing concrete blocks or timber beneath the corners of the box will keep the box from being on the moist surface and will allow the doors to be opened easily.
- Monitor your driveway, gates, and any other places where there are sharp turns since trailers are large.
- Look above you; low-hanging branches and wires can create problems.
- Learn about your local city hall regulations since you may require permission to put the box in your compound.
- Make sure you or another person will be present when the box is being delivered.
Does Size Change Delivery?
A bit, yes. 20ft shipping containers are shorter, so they fit more easily into small yards. 40ft shipping containers are much longer and need more space for the truck to move and unload. If your site is tight, tell us early. We can pick the right truck for the job.
What About Hired and Modified Containers?
Delivery works the same way for container hire. The nice part is that when you are done, we come and collect the box for you. Modified boxes, like site offices or cafes, are heavier and have extra parts inside. If you want one, take a look at our container modifications and let us know where it is going so we can plan the right delivery.
A Quick Tip Before You Order
Remember to let them know about your site whenever you request a quote. Let them know about the access, ground, and location where you would like the container set. It only takes a second, and it will save you from problems down the road.
